Born in Ankara in 1984, Zeynep Çilek Çimen explores the boundaries of form in her work, transforming traditional motifs into optical surface paintings that blend abstraction with symbolism. Her compositions, built on simple rhythms, place motifs rooted in nomadic culture at the centre, creating layers of meaning. These images, sometimes singular or overlapping, establish new relationships and offer a belief that cultural identity can be expressed through symbols. Drawing from Anatolian, Seljuk, and Turkish visual language, Çimen creates her own mythos, bridging local heritage with universal themes. Her works embody a deep sense of transformation, evolving the local into a universally resonant language through her unique nomadic imagery.
